What no camera? Using a simple flat bed scanner enables a different lighting & is a bit trial and error.

The feather was draped by red silk & the high resolution scan presents the subject in a way that a camera could not, especially in the lighting. This technique works well with larger, more 3D objects too, not just flatter subjects like a feather etc.
